Fave Rants and Raves in Advertising

Fellow employees of EmPower Research!
This is the place to list down your favorite commercials, as well as the ones you hate most - with, ofcourse the reasons why.
I will kick start with my picks:
Fave Rave: Not quite advertising, but I just LOVE the 'fillers' on Radio City (Waddey fun!) - specially Appukuttan Ungle, Miss Lingoleela, and Babbar Sher - I think for sheer brilliance of content and execution, as well as the right amount of humor - these deserve high marks. Both my driver and I look forward to these with great interest!
Fave Rant: One I heard this morning - on the Chevrolet Spark - says NOTHING - obviously making a point about its compact size, but, they have to remember - this is India! Here, the car penetration concept started with the Maruti! Every second car on the road - maybe more - is a small compact Maruti...doesn't do anything for me!

TV commercials have come a long way....I just loved that Ad on Asian Paints "Wah Sunil Babu" - anyone rem'bers? Here a happy Sunil Babu sits cosily in his house painted with Asian paints, while a milkman goes by seeing the glow in the house comments -- Wah Sunil babu, Naya Ghar, Nayi Car, Nayi misses (wife)...same milk man passes by the house after couple of years and sees Sunil babu sitting happily reading paper while the car color has faded and his wife has become fat and grey haired (means gone old). After few years again the same milkman (now an old man) passes by with his grandchildren seeing the same glowing house comments "wah sunil babu" while his wife wasnt there and the bonnet of his car broken and in garage -- the commercial was very creative and brought out the longevity factor in Asian Paints.
One more are that Fevicol ads - one is that hen which eats grains accidently mixed with fevicol and lays unbreakable eggs, another one is that where a bus, dangerously overloaded with passengers, but with a Fevicol ad in its body keeps all intact even on a very bumpy road.
About rants I would say club all the commercials that feature celebrities with some horrible jingles for some rubbish products.....uuuggghhh.

"Good things come to those who wait" ---- This very famous campaign has long been a favorite of mine...though, at the risk of offending my Irish friends, I have to say that the beer (sorry, Guiness!) I actually don't like that much.
Some famous executions have been the "Surfer" ad; the "Time turning/ dinosuars" one, and the popular viral one with Joe McKinney dancing around the drink while it was given time to settle.
Anyone with access to the archive, do post them here! - they're a treat!

I saw a new "top 5" ad list. I think two of them were brilliant:
One by the San Francisco Zoo - Its really simple. All it has is copy:
It says:
Puma.....
(Next Frame)If you thought of Shoes,... its time....
(Next Frame)Logo of San Francisco Zoo....
As I said, Brilliant! Watch it at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvs9kURU79s
Another one I really liked was part of a continuing favorite campaign of mine, The Dove "Real Woman" one. This particular one has a tagline that says: "Talk to your daughter before the beauty industry does". (As a motgher of a 7 year old, and a "plus size" mother at that, this REALLY hit the sweet-spot. This can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaH4y6ZjSfE
Kudos to BBDO and O&M.

I think the recent ads on Indian TV for Bingo - the range of snack foods from ITC (yet again! hasn't ITC tried this too often?) are pretty good.
On that note, did anyone see the much talked about Carl's Jr. "Flat Buns" ad last month?

"Seriously desirable furniture" - Seriously, WHAT does this mean?
Says nothing about the product, nothing about who is supposed to desire it, this is just one of those meaningless tag lines. Come on, Godrej - surely you can do better?
